IPR
has a well equipped computer Division, and a well stocked library, to
support the scientific and technical progrrames of the institute.
The
computer facility comprises of 20 Sun workstations, several linux
servers, a small linux cluster, and a host of Windows and Windows NT
machines, connected through a fast ethernet backbone to the
approximately 300 PCs kept at different locations in the institute.
The centre maintains the institutional mailserver, webserver, domain
name server, proxy server etc, apart from performing standard system
administrative jobs, user support and software maintenance. Fortran
and C compilers, mathematical and graphics libraries, designing
software are available on a multitude of platforms. The centre is a
collaborator in the PhysNet project,
which aims at global networking of all the Physics institutes and
departments.
The
library has a huge collection of books on Plasma Physics, Fusion
Technology, General Physics, Mathematics, Nonlinear Science,
Simulation methods, Cryogenics and all branches of engineering. It
offers a wide variety of services like the current awareness service,
selective dessimination of information, translation, etc, apart from
circulation, reference, referral, inter library loan etc.
It plays a vital role in meeting the present and anticipated future
needs of it's scientific community, by selecting. acquiring and
disseminating appropriate scientific and technical information
through different channels of communication.
Both
the computer centre and library, are kept open till 8:00 pm on
working days, and is open till 17:30 hrs on Saturdays.
