GANDHI ASHRAM:

On a quiet peaceful stretch of the Sabarmati river Mahatami Gandhi, renowed political leader set up a simple retreat in 1915, which later became the nerve centre of the Indian freedom movement. It is now a national monument.

It’s a 2 hour tour. Open from 9-5 pm, Mon thru Sat, with a sound and light show of the Life and Works of Mahatama.


DADA HARI VAV:


The Step well is a unique architectural feature of Gujarat, built in 1501 in the reign of Sultan Mehmud Begada. The walls are splendidly carved and ornamented. Step wells were built as acts of devotion and provided travelers with water and cool resting places.

Visiting Hours – 9-5 pm. 30 mins tour.


CALICO TEXTILE MUSEUM


One the finest textile museums of the world is in the Ahmedabad. Housed in one of the famous carved Haveli’s – Manors, it displays’s a magnificent collection of rare textiles that date back to the 17th century.

Visiting hours : 9 to 5 pm, 2 hour tour.


HUTHEESING JAIN TEMPLE

Beautiful ornate temple built by a Jain merchant in 1850, showcases a prominent religious sects of India – Jainism.

Visiting hours : 9 to 5 pm with a Lunch break between 1 to 2 pm


JUMMA MASJID


The Friday mosque was built by the Founder – Sultan Ahmed Shah in I 423.

Built in yellow sandstone in a combined Hindu and Muslim style, its stands on 260 pillars that support 15 domes at varying elevations.

KANKARIA LAKE


A polygonal lake almost a mile in circumstance, was constructed in 1451 by Sultan Qutb-ud-din. The lake is now a popular recreational centre and flanked by the city Zoo, children’s garden, a natural history museum and boat club.

Visiting hours : flexible, with entry and ride fee for boating club.


SHAKING MINARETS


The famous shaking minarets of Sidi Bashir’s mosque created so much curiosity that one of the them was dismantled to fathom the secret of construction. The amazing fact is that if one is shaken the twin vibrates too!!
