Dr. Jinto Thomas is a Scientific Officer–G and Head of the Laser Diagnostics Section at the Institute for Plasma Research (IPR), India. He first got a B.Sc. in Physics from St. Joseph's College Devagiri, and then an M.Sc. in Physics from Indian Institute of Technology Madras. He completed his Ph.D. at IPR, where he specialised in studying on plasma specifically laser produced plasma.Dr. Thomas is presently working on developing advanced systems for diagnosing fusion-grade plasmas and high-temperature tokamak applications. His current research is about developing Thomson scattering systems for measuring the parameters of high-temperature tokamak plasmas. These parameters are important for magnetic confinement fusion. He is also involved in the development of helium beam diagnostics for plasma characterization and edge plasma studies. As well as working on plasma diagnostics, he is interested in other areas of research like laser-produced plasmas, plasma spectroscopy, Stark broadening, laser–matter interaction, and optical plasma diagnostics. He is also involved in new studies related to plasma–wall interactions. He uses techniques such as micro-Raman spectroscopy and Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) to analyze materials that come into contact with the plasma.  He is interested in how laser-produced plasma differs in its properties, and he studies this using  polarization discrimination. Dr. Thomas has authored and co-authored several scientific publications that have been peer reviewed. He is also a mentor for students and young researchers in plasma science and diagnostics.
