Control and Data system (CDS) is one of the major subsystems of LIGO Detector. The LIGO-India (LI) CDS features a tightly coupled and highly integrated control and data acquisition system. Control of the interferometer requires many Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) control loops closed both locally and across the 4-kilometer interferometer arm lengths. In addition to providing the closed loop control, the control systems front end processors act as Data Collection Units (DCU) for the data acquisition system. Connection between the multiple front-end processors and the data acquisition system is achieved using fiber optic based real-time networks.
CDS related activities include procurement of all hardware & software, integration and testing for the analog and digital signal conditioning electronics, computers, networking, interfaces to sensors/actuators and excitation devices for reading Advanced LIGO data and diagnostic data and operating diagnostic systems. Common elements of the supervisory control and human interface for subsystems, Global Diagnostics System (GDS), Physics Environmental Monitoring (PEM) and the infrastructure (cable plant, servers, etc.) are part of this subsystem.
