Cryogenic Plant & Distribution System (CPDS) of SST-1 Cryogenics Division facilitates the cool-down of the superconducting magnets to 4.5K and thermal shields to 80K respectively for SST-1 plasma experiments. The section has developed vapour cooled conventional superconducting current leads of 10 kA rating, cryo-lines with multiple process pipes, temperature transmitters for cryogenic sensors, electrical insulation breaks, cryogenic vacuum barriers, dissimilar material joints, etc. The section has experimental facilities to test the superconducting current leads of low-temperature superconductor (LTS) and high-temperature superconductor (HTS), superconducting coils, and cryogenic temperature calibration. CPDS Section has the following sub-systems:
a) Helium Refrigerator cum Liquefier (HRL) of 1.3 kW at 4.5K
1. Compressor Station housing 3 screw compressors.
2. Oil Removal System.
3. On-line Purifier.
4. Coldbox with Main Control Dewar.
b) Integrated Flow Distribution & Control System (IFDCS)
c) Superconducting Current Feeder System (CFS)
d) Warm Gas Management (WGM) with Helium Recovery System
Comprises 4 medium-pressure storage vessels for pure Helium gas and 2 high-pressure storage vessels for impure Helium gas.
e) Liquid Nitrogen (LN2) Management & Distribution System
f) 80K Liquid Nitrogen (LN2) Booster System & Valve Box
g) 12 kA, 16 VDC Programmable Power Supply
