Important information to those interested in submitting new research proposals to NFP / PFRC




Reviews are usually conducted twice a year in DEC-JAN and JUL-AUG.

PI's are requested to read the FAQ and Instructions carefully before

submission of the project proposal





These are a few guidelines to help you submit a research proposal to BRNS. For any additional information, kindly contact the NFP.



STEP -1


Identify an area of research (the NFP document or the idea seed document could be used as a starting point), or you may contact NFP with your project idea or area of interest.


STEP -2


For academic institutions and/or industrial institutions, it is mandatory to have a coordinator from IPR.

Please read the instructions carefully before submitting the project. It is also recommended to read the FAQ document. For any clarifications, please contact NFP.


STEP -3

Once the project draft is ready,


Please DO NOT upload your project files on BRNS website before getting approval from IPR.


PI has to create an account on the BRNS portal (https://brns.res.in)


PI has to FIRST submit ONLY the following (1) Project proposal PPA (2) Budget sheet to NFP (nfp@ipr.res.in) in the prescribed formats ONLY. Please do not send PDF files. The projects will then be put up for approval from the "Director's Advisory Council (DAC)" of IPR. Once it is approved by DAC, the PC will provide the PI with "CERTIFICATE-2".


The PI will be intimated regarding the status of the project's approval by IPR DAC. Once the project is approved, PI will be provided with the Certificate from IPR and the PI has to then upload the proposal along other required documents and certificates to the BRNS portal. Once the upload process is started, it has to be completed within 15 days.  


Select research project as "NEW REGULAR RESEARCH PROJECT" and committee as "PFRC" while submitting the project to the BRNS web portal.

There is no need to upload the Excel budget sheet on BRNS web portal. It is only for NFP.  


Once the project is uploaded, please send a signed copy of ALL the project documents to BRNS at this address by post ;

STEP -4


Project will be evaluated by external referee(s).


STEP -5


If majority of the referees recommend the project, the PI will be invited to give a presentation to the PFRC Committee mainly on matters regarding project content, deliverables, implementation and budgeting. The PI may also be asked to clarify questions raised by the referees regarding the project (if any). It is mandatory for the PI to attend the review meetings.


STEP -6


Once approved by the PFRC Committee, BRNS will issue the Sanction Letter, followed by the first instalment of the budget.  The date of receipt of the funds by the PI's institute will be taken as the date of start of the project.  Please address all queries regarding release of funds to BRNS.


STEP -7


PI will have to submit yearly progress reports to BRNS and NFP, and presentation of work carried out during review meetings (yearly).  Projects will be reviewed only the pre-final and final years of the project. PI will however have to submit Project report and budget expendiure statement to BRNS and NFP every year.


PI of new projects will be paid TA and accommodation (twin sharing) by BRNS.
