About PSSI

Plasma Science Society of India (PSSI), established in 1978, has an objective of promoting and popularizing Plasma Science and related Technology in India. In pursuance towards this objective the society works for creating opportunities and environment for active interactions amidst younger generation of students from far and wide corners of our country with the experts working in this field. The society also promotes interaction amongst the scientific experts from research institutes and universities with Indian industries to help forge fruitful collaborations in the field of new technologies which is suitable, practical and beneficial for our country. Below we provide a list of some activities which we are currently carrying out and also some future plans that we have in this regard. PSSI currently has over 700 life members  25 student members, 2 Industry members and 2 Institutional members.

The significance of PSSI in propagating and promoting Plasma Science & Technology in India holds special significance after India has become a full participating member of the ITER project .

Current activities

Organizing Plasma Science Symposium every year, preferably in local Universities. The academic activities of the symposia are designed so as to have a few review talks given by experts in the field (which are general enough to introduce the subject area and also contain clear specification of the current challenges involved in the research in that area), invited presentations (on specific areas of current interest) and oral and poster presentations (for young research participants). In addition to this a popular lecture is also organized usually.  The symposia give an opportunity to the young university students and the college faculties to directly interact with the experts in the area.

PSSI also financially supports the travel and participation of young research scholars and college/universities lecturers to these symposia.

PSSI, in conjunction with private sponsors has instituted awards for presentation of quality research works in the field of Plasma Science & Technology and these awards are presented at the annual Plasma Symposium.

PSSI also provides a research grant and a fellowship every year to enable research scholars and Post-doctoral Fellows to pursue collaborative research at research institutes other than their own for a period of three to four months.

PSSI organizes workshops on theme issues pertaining to the frontline research activities in Plasma science & technology. This will help foster a better interaction amongst the industry and scientists.

The PSSI also maintains a frequently updated web page (www.pssi.in) for the benefit of the members and other interested people. The web page has details of the society, its various activities and a repository of electronic versions of past Newsletters.

PSSI plans to bring out an annual Journal containing peer reviewed review articles, full length research papers and short communications on Plasma science and Technology.

PSSI also plans to help universities to introduce Plasma Science & Technology as a subject in their graduate and post-graduate levels. Plans to bring in new activities that would involve greater participation from the Indian industries.
