Questions related to visiting IPR are here.

Q. Who can visit IPR ?
A. Any educational institution can plan an academic visit for their students/faculty to IPR.  All the visitors should be Indian Nationals.

Q. What kind of students can visit ?
A. Science students of secondary / higher secondary / Junior College / Graduate /Post-Graduate as well as Engineering stream can visit IPR.

Q. Our institution has students of foreign nationalities. Can they visit too ?
A. NO. visitors with any foreign nationality WILL NOT be permitted to enter the campus.

Q. Which are the days on which we can visit IPR ?
A. Educational visits to IPR are possible on worning days (monday to friday, 10:00-17:00). Please check with IPR if the date of your choice is available or not before finalizing your travel plans. Only ONE group will be allowed on a day. Visits to IPR may not be possible if IPR Outreach team is on tour.

Q. What is the process to get permission to visit IPR ?
A. The procedure is as follows ;
(1) Contact IPR Outreach and confirm if the day(s) that you wish to visit are available.
(2) If the date convenient to you is available, then fill up the on-line application form.
(3) Upload the PDF of the details of visitors to the online form and also email a copy of the same to  <academicvisits@ipr.res.in> in the prescribed format.
(4) Once IPR gives its permission, you can plan your trip.
(5) If your group wishes to have lunch at IPR, you will need to pre-book it with the canteen (on payment basis).
(6) After your visit is over, you will be required to fill the on-line feedback form.

Q. I want to visit IPR with my friends / family. Is it possible ?
A. NO. Only academic visits through your affiliated college/university / institute is permitted. However, during the "Open House" that is conducted as part of the Science Day (NSD) Celebrations in the month of January every year, IPR and its facilities are open to general public. You can certainly visit IPR with your friends at that time. Private visits are allowed only during the NSD celebrations.

Q. Our group consists of 100 students. Is it possible to accommodate this large group ?  
A. As such, there is no restriction in the number of visitors in a group. However, our lab facilites do not have enough space to accommodate more than 25 persons at a time. Hence, the time taken for your tour of IPR facilities will increase according to the number of your group.  The lecture-cum-exhibtion hall can accommodate about 100 persons.

Q. Can the students of our college visit IPR on their own ?  
A. NO. Students will have to be in a group and accompanied by at least one (or more) faculty member(s). Prior permission is to be obtained from IPR before the visit.  

Q. Will local transportation be provided to visit IPR ?
A. NO. IPR will not provide any local transportation. However, information regarding local transport agencies who can provide your group with local transportation (at a cost) can be provided to you.  

Q. Will Is there IPR provide lunch during our visit ?
A. Visiting group can pre-book their lunch at the IPR canteen on payment basis.  

Q. Do we have to pay for visting IPR ?
A. NO. There is no charge for visiting IPR.
Q. How many campuses does IPR have ?
A. IPR has TWO campuses in Gandhinagar.
(1) Main campus which is near Indira Bridge.
(2) FCIPT and which is located in the GIDC, Gandhinagar. GIDC is located about 20 kms from IPR main campus.

Q. How much time is required to see all the three campuses ?
A. To see all the two campuses, you will need a whole day. One half will be spent at IPR and the other half at FCIPT Labs.

Q. Is it possible to see only one campus of  IPR ?
A. YES. Depending on the interest of the visiting team, visit to any one of the campuses can be scheduled. Also, depending on the interest, visits can also be arranged to specific laboratories. You will have to contact us in well in advance to make the plan.  

Q. Is it possible to get some basic study material on plasma  ?
A. YES. Depending on the interest of the visiting team, the Outreach Division can provide a copy of the following on request ;
(1) Book entitled "Living With Plasma" (available in both English or Hindi)
(2) A set of 10 posters on Plasma Science & Technology (available in both English or Hindi)
(3) A DVD with contents related to plasma science & technology (Presentations, videos, books etc). Please note that only ONE set will be provided.

Q. Our group has PG students and they would like to visit specialized labs in IPR. Is this possible  ?
A. Yes. If you communicate the areas of interest early enough, we can try to arrange visits to specialized labs (specially for Mechanical / Electronics / RF / Electrical/ Vacuum / Crogenics / Refrigeration/air conditioning engineering students).

Q. How can we enter IPR campus for our visit ?
A. The list of visitors provided to IPR by you will be forwarded to the IPR security. ALL visitors are required to carry with them, any Government Approved Identity card. They will also be required to wear their institutional ID card at all times during their visit to the campus.

Q. Will IPR provide a certificate to the visitors ?
A. IPR will not provide any kind of individual certificates to the visitors. However, if the accompanying staff requires a proof of their visit, IPR can provide a certificate to that regard.

Q. Does IPR have an OPEN HOUSE ?
A. IPR holds open house sessions every year during the National Science Day (NSD) celebrations, which is usually held during the last week of January or first week of February. During the two days of NSD, IPR campus is open to public. Details of the NSD programme will be available online. No prior permission is required for visiting IPR during NSD. Visitors have to carry a government approved ID card with them.  

Q. Can we download and use the plasma resource materials from this website ?
A. You can download them for educational purpose ONLY. If you plan to make large number of copies of the book / Posters, please take prior permission from IPR Outreach Division. Users are expected to inform IPR about the programe where and how these resource materials will be used and also send a report of the programme to IPR.

Q. Will IPR provide us with resource materials if we wish to organize a training programe for our students in plasma ?
A. IPR can provide limited numbers of the set of posters and book on plasma. However this is subject to availibility of the resource materials with IPR. In case IPR provides, users are expected to inform IPR about the programe where and how these resource materials will be used and also send a report of the programme to IPR. Resource materials will be given only to those teachers who

Q. Can IPR Outreach conduct training programme for our teachers ?
A. Usually training programmes are planned by IPR Outreach in advance, based on the budget made available for outreach programmes. It is advicible that if you wish to orgainze such a training programme, it is best that it is organized under the aegis of an organization / society / such as the State Science & Technology Councils, Indian Physics Teachers Association etc. Basic funding for the orgainzation of such training programme will have to be borne by the organizers, unless the meeting is fully organized by IPR.
