Scientific Outreach Activity :
National Exhibition and Seminar on Plasma Physics

Under the auspices of "Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav", The National Exhibition & Seminar on Plasma Physics (NESPP-2022) was organized by CPP-IPR and IPR in association with the University Of Science & Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) during 1-5 August, 2022 at the USTM campus at Baridua, Meghalaya. The Outreach team of IPR transported over 20 working and non-working models, posters, comic book on plasma etc. to Meghalaya to set up this exhibition on plasma, which is unique in the sense that it is for the first time that such an exhibition was being held in the North Eastern part of the country.

The event was inaugurated by the Honourable Education Minister of Meghalaya, Shri. Lahkmen Rymbui, who also inaugurated the CPP-IPR exhibition on plasma and its applications.  The Minister spent a considerable amount of time at the exhibition with the various exhibits on plasma and its applications. He was also eager to know more details about the Plasma Pyrolysis system for waste management.  Dr. B. K. Saikia, Centre Director, CPP-IPR also addressed the gathering and gave a brief account of R&D activities in plasma at IPR and CPP-IPR.

During the event, a popular talk on Plasma was also delivered by Dr. Ravi Kumar (Head Outreach Division, IPR) to the students of USTM on 2nd August, 2022.

During the 5 days, over 2000 students from USTM as well as many more students and teachers from various schools in Guwahati as well as rural areas in the state of Assam visited the exhibition.  
PhD Scholars from CPP-IPR as well as MSc Physics students from USTM, who were trained by experts from IPR and CPP-IPR explained the exhibits to the visitors.

The valedictory function of the event was held on 5th August, 2022 with Shri James Sangma, Honourable Minister of Health & Forest, Government of Meghalaya being the Chief Guest. He addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of applications of plasma in various walks of life. He also visited the plasma exhibition and interacted with the students there. The Chancellor of USTM Shri Mahbubul Hoque expressed his satisfaction over the conduct of the event and the large number of students who visited the exhibition. He emphasized that more such interactive events in science should be held across the NE region.

Coordinators for the event from CPP-IPR were Dr. Rakesh Moulick and Dr. Ngangom Aomoa. The following faculty from Dept. of Physics, USTM coordinated the event from USTM; Dr. Mainak Basu, Dr.Sanchita Roy, Dr. Mayuri Devi, Dr. Nitu Borghain and Dr. Devashree Borghain.
